Common mistakes and refusal reasons
1. Assuming the exemption period is permanent
It has changed before (from 30 to 45 to 60 days). A return to a shorter period has been approved but the start date is not announced. Check close to your trip.
2. Overstaying by even one day
Overstay fines are 500 THB per day, capped at 20,000 THB. Even one day of overstay is recorded and can affect future entries.
3. No Re-entry Permit for exemption
If you leave Thailand, the exemption stamp is cancelled. Re-entry Permit does not restore a single-entry exemption.

Which countries qualify for visa exemption?
Over 90 countries, including most EU nations, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Russia and others. The full list is on the MFA website and changes occasionally.
Can I extend the 60-day stay?
Yes, by 30 days at any immigration office inside Thailand for 1,900 THB. Apply before your current permission expires. Extension is at the discretion of the office, not a right.
Can I work on a visa exemption?
No. The exemption is for tourism only. It does not give the right to work, do business or earn income in Thailand.
How many times can I enter on exemption per year?
There is no official annual cap, but repeated visa-exempt entries attract scrutiny at the border. If you are coming and going frequently, consider a tourist visa or DTV.
Do I need a return ticket?
Yes. Airlines will check it before boarding, and immigration may ask for it on arrival.
