TR or METV
The choice comes down to how many times you are entering, not how long you stay per trip.
Single entry (TR)

Common mistakes and refusal reasons
1. Assuming the exemption period is fixed
It has been changed before and a further change is approved but undated. Check close to your travel date.
2. Applying from inside Thailand
Tourist visas are issued to applicants outside the country.
3. Treating a tourist visa as a way to live here
Repeated tourist entries attract scrutiny at the border. For a long stay, use the visa built for it.
4. Missing the extension window
The 30-day extension is applied for before your permitted stay expires, not after.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a tourist visa at all?
Citizens of 90+ countries do not, for short stays. If your trip is longer than the exemption allows, or your nationality is not covered, then yes.
How long can I stay?
Up to 60 days per entry, plus a 30-day extension applied for inside Thailand for 1,900 THB.
What is the difference between TR and METV?
TR is one entry within three months. METV allows unlimited entries within six months, each up to 60 days, but costs more and expects stronger financial evidence and a travel history.
Can I work on a tourist visa?
No, including remotely in most readings. If you earn online, the DTV is the visa designed for that.
Can I convert it to a long-stay visa?
Sometimes, inside Thailand, if you have enough days left and meet the criteria for the target visa. Not every immigration office processes conversions.
