Common mistakes and refusal reasons
1. Funds not seasoned for 2 months
The ฿800,000 must sit in the account for at least 2 months before you apply for the extension.
2. Balance dropping below ฿400,000 after approval
For the first 3 months after extension, the balance must stay above ฿400,000.
3. Not having enough days left
You need sufficient remaining permission for the immigration office to accept the conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert from a tourist visa to Non-O retirement?
Sometimes, if you have enough days left and meet the criteria. Not every immigration office processes conversions. Bangkok and Chiang Mai are the most reliable.
Do I need health insurance for Non-O?
No. Unlike O-A, the Non-O route from inside Thailand does not require health insurance. But it is recommended.
How long does the ฿800,000 need to be in the account?
At least 2 months before you apply for the extension. After approval, it must stay above ฿400,000 for 3 months.
Can I use my home bank account for the ฿800,000?
Not for the Non-O extension route. The money has to sit in a Thai bank account in your own name, transferred from abroad.
