Common mistakes and refusal reasons
1. Applying from inside Thailand
DTV can only be filed from outside the country. There is no conversion route from inside. The e-Visa application must be completed from the country where you can establish your presence.
2. Using crypto or stocks for the financial requirement
Financial evidence must show liquid assets — bank statements, payslips or sponsorship letter. Crypto, stocks, ETFs, pension funds and property valuations do not count.
3. Large deposit right before applying
A sudden large deposit is the pattern most often questioned by missions. The ฿500,000 must be shown for the last 3 months.
4. Application fee is non-refundable
If the application is refused, the fee is not returned. Get it right the first time.
5. Restricted nationalities
Citizens of certain countries may not be eligible when applying from countries which are not their home country. Check with the embassy first.
Frequently asked questions
Can I work for Thai clients on DTV?
No work permit is required if you are working under the Workation section and are employed by non-Thai entities. If you wish to work for Thai companies, you will need a work permit and a different type of visa.
Do I pay tax in Thailand on DTV?
If you stay 180+ days in a calendar year and remit income into Thailand, Thai tax obligations may arise. Consult a tax professional for your specific situation.
Can my family come with me?
Yes. Spouse and children under 20 can file alongside your DTV application. They need proof of relationship (marriage/birth certificate), proof of 6+ months residence in Thailand, and the same ฿500,000 financial evidence.
Can I stay for 5 years straight?
No. Five years is the validity of the multiple-entry visa, not continuous stay. Each entry gives up to 180 days, extendable once by 180 days. After 360 days you must leave; with a valid DTV you can re-enter.
How much does the DTV cost?
The government fee varies by country of application — from ฿8,619 (Sri Lanka) to ฿39,203 (New Zealand). Most countries: 350 EUR or 400 USD. Our service fee is from 15,000 THB.
Can I change visa type inside Thailand?
DTV holders can request to change the type of visa within the country, but this will terminate the DTV.
